Match reports
Inter Priory 4 Broughton Ravers 3
A fantastic game but unfortunately the result didn’t reflect the hard work and skill level of the team. Kicking with the wind in the first half, Ravers dominated the majority of the play, Curtis scoring direct from two corners and Kyle narrowly missing a third. A defensive slip with two minutes to go before half time let Priory score an easy tap in. Half Time Ravers 2 Priory 1.
Priory started second half the better and equalised after 4 minutes. Ravers showed great resilience and following a good passing move Richard scored a fantastic left foot goal to retake the lead. The wind certainly helped the home side who started to play the game in the Ravers half and equalised again after 16 mins. The game ebbed and flowed and it looked likely a draw would be the outcome. Especially after Sam had pulled off a tremendous save tipping one over the bar and a few minutes later blocking a shot with his legs. Ravers couldnt hang on, after another defense splitting path Priory scored again to take the lead for the first time. Ravers played brilliantly and lets hope we can continue with this level of performance in our remaining games.
Brigg 6 Broughton Ravers 0
Better turnout, 14 players, early start though lads should have had an extra hour in bed due to the clocks being turned back. Caught napping early on with long balls that split the defence, wayward shooting and a couple of saves preventing Brigg from scoring. On 13mins however bad marking from set piece enabled Brigg to take the lead. Ravers only created a couple of half chances whilst Brigg continued to dominate. Another corner on 30mins and again no challenge led to their second goal. On the stroke of half time again from a corner Brigg scored again. Half Time Brigg 3 Ravers 0.
Second half pep talk obviouslydid not have the desired effect as Brigg scored twice in the first 3 mins. However, the coaching staff and parents were very pleased with the performance for the rest of the half. The defence and midfield work effectively as units, stopping the majority of the Brigg attacks, and Richard along with Kane and Ash, worked tirelessly upfront to continually harass the Brigg back four. First Kane and then Ben both had gilt edged chances to put Ravers on the score sheet unfortunately this wasnt to be. Brigg caught the defence out in the last minute to score their 6th. Final Score Brigg 6 Ravers 0.
Lots of positives to take from the second half performance. One game we will put it all together and surprise everyone.
Scotter 11 Broughton Ravers 0
Only eleven players turned up, less said the better.
App Frod Saints 7 Broughton Ravers 2
Nearly the full compliment of players available, on Jack unavailable. Kieran returned after injury to take his place on the bench. App Frod started the brighter and put the Ravers defence under pressure. It was a little too easy for their forwards to create one on one chances with Sam. It was a surprise that it took until the 20min before they scored. A few tactical changes were made and Ravers started to play in Saints half. 31mins Saints scored on the break, Ravers battled well and it looked like the half had been saved. However on 39mins three passes went unchallenged and Saints scored again. Half Time App Frod Saints 3- Ravers 0
A bit more urgency at the start of the second, Ravers began passing the ball around. A counter-attack however led to Saints scoring again. A few more changes and Ravers soon were in charge and chances soon fell to Kieran. It was Mandeep though who scored on 26mins. Ravers were caught napping and on 29mins Saints scored. Back came Ravers with the move of the match we led to Kieran scoring on his return on 32mins. Kane put a difficult chance just wide of the post. The heat seemed to affect Ravers more and in the last 5 mins Saints scored twice more. A better all round performance that now just needs tweaking. Full Time – Saints 7 – Ravers 2

Broughton 1 Park Tigers 8
Another great first half performance by the lads was not enough to stop the tigers from filling their boots.
Well organised with two solid banks of four saw Ravers dominate the early stages of the game and is was no surprise that they took the lead from a well taken goal by Kane after 8mins. A slip by Sam enabled Park Tigers to draw level after 18mins and they increased their lead after 21mins following a great strike from a free kick. Ravers competed well and still created chances, Mandeep having three shots from outside the box. Liam, who was playing the sweeper role, pulled his hamstring just before half time. Half Time Ravers 1 Tigers 2.
The second half mirror the performance of last week. A no show. goals on 2, 3 and 7 mins finished the game as a contest. More chances game and with a bit of good fortune and Sam, tigers didnt increase their lead further until the 20th and 25th min. A final flurry of chances saw the last goal go in after 38mins. Final Score Ravers 1 Tigers 8. Goalscorer Kane.
Messingham 9 Broughton 0
Chris injured and Liam ill on the morning of the game left the team with a bare eleven. Following a bit of a shuffle the team played out of their skins in the first half. Messingham had only a few half chances and unfortunately scored from one of them after 25mins. The team was full of high spirits going in only one goal down. Half Time 1-0.
Second half was totally different. Yes Messingham did play alot better and attacked down the flanks. But we were Ravers were poor. Goals again were conceded in clusters due to heads going down, and players accepting defeat far too easily. Goals scored on 2, 12, 15 and 16 mins finished the game as a contest. A bit of a spirited fight back for 10mins gave us a bit of hope to keep the score respectable, but another couple conceded on 29 and 31 mins and two in the final minute left the management feeling what could have been. Full Time 9-0
Broughton Ravers 2 Inter Priory 2
A windy sunday afternoon was the setting for the first match of the season. The lads look dazzling in their bright orange kit. We all couldn’t wait for the season to start.
Kicking with the strong wind in the first half we had to take our chances. These were limited to a few wayward shots. Our first real chance came from a corner that Kyle swung in and everybody missed. Not long afterwards, Kane turned in the box and shot at goal, the keeper could only parry the ball towards the goal. It had to go in, Paul had turned to celebrate!!, but Oh no it was cleared off the line. Unfortunately, by Tom, whose attempt to make sure the ball was in went horribly wrong. A few minutes later Tom appeared to have redeemed himself with a lob that appeared to hit the net and bounce out. Not seen by the ref though. On 30mins the goal came, Danny with a neat back flip, which rolled into the goal. Inter priory managed to level following a shot that hit the post and came back in play to rebound off Jack into the goal. Half Time 1-1
We needed a good start kicking into the wind and it came after 1min. a great catch and throw out by Sam to Kyle, who played in Ash down the right. His strength pushed off the defender and crossed to Kane, whose deft feet bamboozled the keeper and passed the ball into the goal. Stout defending followed. Could we hang on. With 3 mins left a free kick was awarded just outside our box. After missing wildly, the attacker was given a second chance by the ref, and this time bent a fantastic shot into the top corner. Possibly a fair result but feels like we lost.
Goalscorers Danny and Kane.
Player – Ben Dowell.
